A Colorful Surf Hotel Wedding | Buena Vista Wedding Photographer
If you’ve ever been to the Surf Hotel in Buena Vista—or simply just seen photos—you know how beautiful this place is. Gorgeous rock lining the exterior walls, design-forward interiors, and an abundance of character make for a luxury experience. Couple that with the endless fun and opportunity of a mountain town like Buena Vista, you have the perfect destination wedding venue. As a Colorado wedding photographer, it’s always such a dream to photograph a special day at the Surf Hotel.
A Luxury Surf Hotel Wedding in Buena Vista, Colorado
With its European-inspired facades, the Surf Hotel and Residences offers the perfect backdrop for a luxury Colorado wedding experience. Invite your friends and family from all over. There are no shortage of places for them to stay at the Surf and beyond. Reserve a room block in the main hotel, invite guests to rent any of their numerous apartments and home rentals, or stay in the newly constructed Surf House just off the main hotel. You’ll see some photos below of the Surf House, where the bride and groom both got ready and then had their first look before the ceremony.
I was lucky to get the chance to photograph this wedding for Brittany of Alchemy Creative. The bride’s vision for this day was so colorful and designer-worthy. With a smattering of fruit among the gorgeous florals, lots of bright color throughout the entire day, and very intentional paper and signage brainstormed by the bride, it was a photographer’s dream.
Film Photography at the Surf Hotel
Just before this wedding, I purchased a Hasselblad medium format film camera and I had such a fun time bringing it out for its wedding debut. Coupled with my little Yashica point and shoot film camera, I was able to supplement my digital photos with a handful of lush, colorful film shots. See if you can spot which photos are which below!
A Dreamy Wedding Ceremony in Buena Vista
This couple chose a slightly unconventional approach to their wedding ceremony and I adored every minute of it. The bride and groom appeared together and walked down the aisle side by side; no wedding party, no parents, no one but the two of them, signaling their commitment to one another. It felt very intentional and thoughtful and I always love to see couples make a wedding day their own.
While the design and details of the day were planned with care and attention, it was clear the day was still very much about their love for one another and the people closest to them. The beauty of the day came second to the love and joy among themselves and their people. As a Buena Vista wedding photographer, I see a lot of stunning wedding days. And the most beautiful ones are always centered around the people and their joy shining through.
